Are you ready to make this the party of her dreams? Two things that absolutely shout "girl" are tea and princess... why not combine both to make the perfect event for her *special day!
First, have classical music in the background during the tea. A lovely selection is Tchaikovsky at Tea Time, a beautiful collection of classical music. Anything by Bach would be suitable as well. For some reason just hearing the music helps girls to be more elegant!
Also, set the tea table elegantly. Use a white tablecloth and sprinkle the table with rose petals or use a pretty strand of silk flowers from the local craft store. Or use a purple (the color of royalty) tablecloth with gold and silver accents.
Make sure the girls all wear tiaras (a great take home gift from your birthday girl) and feather boas or set up a dress up station
Since the actual "Tea" is the main focus of this party, do it up right. Here are some ideas for tea party food so your party will be the talk of the town:
Absolute must haves are scones and clotted cream. Clotted cream tends to be a little sour so you might want to substitute whip cream instead and the girls will love it.
Next, make sure you have chocolate covered strawberries. Even if the girls don't eat them, they'll look great on the table and you can always eat them yourself later! :-)
Thumbprint cookies are fun and easy to make and your princess can help by contributing her thumb!
Another traditional tea food is cucumber sandwiches. Not always a hit with young girls, you can substitute a cheese or pb&j instead. Just make sure you cut them into little shapes for fun!
